*** Update***
At the June 18th 2024 meeting, the Lyon County Board of Commissioners passed a couple motions that will change hunting from previous years.
- Archery Deer Hunting Season at Garvin Park is open from November 1st 2024 - -December 31st 2024.
- Crossbows are permitted for 70+ years of age and ADA use only.
You must possess a Garvin Park Hunting permit. They are free and can be picked up at:

Hunting at Garvin Park
The Lyon County Board of Commissioners votes each year to allow hunting in Garvin Park for wild turkey and white-tailed deer. These decisions are made in advance of each hunting season, and the terms of each hunting season is subject to change from year to year pending County Board decisions. Please call the Parks Department (507) 532-8214 for the most current information.
Deer Management:
PARK STAFF MUST BE NOTIFIED OF ALL HARVESTED DEER. Call (507) 532-8214 to notify park staff.
Regular archery license:
Except in bucks-only permit areas, a regular archery license is valid for an either-sex deer statewide in any open area. Unless authorized under the Minnesota Personal Protection Act, a person may not possess a firearm while bow hunting for deer.
Open Areas:
Archery hunters can hunt Garvin Park areas except in locations designated where people gather; including picnic shelters, campgrounds, the park lodge and tubing hill, playgrounds, and disc golf course. Please be aware that maintained trails may be used at any time for people choosing to ride horseback, hike, or bike the designated trails in the park.
All hunters must follow MNDNR hunting rules, and Minnesota State laws.
