NO BAGS!

Bags are a terrible way to transport containers. They are not stable, and pose a risk to people as one cannot see if containers become broken in transportation.

Separate if Possible

Keep separate glass containers to avoid breakage, and box up leaking containers; keeping separate from other boxes. Pesticides containing nitrogen should not be in the same box as diesel fuel, and items containing acids should be kept away from bleach, pool chemicals, and.

Read the Hazard Label

Active Ingredients are often listed (yes, we know the print is small), and many products have hazard warnings.

Usable materials dropped off at the HHW facility are offered free on a first come first serve basis. Usable paints, automotive products, and pesticides are commonly offered for re-use. There is a limit to the number of items you may take from the HHW Product Exchange Area, and there are NO guarantees or warranties that come with the product.

Offering your partially used items is an excellent way to help others, and to reduce the amount of new products that has to be purchased.

Products used in the home that often contain hazardous chemicals that should be disposed at the HHW Facility include bathroom cleaners, oven cleaners, old mercury thermometers or thermostats, and paints, stains, or other hobby products.

Yard and Garden pesticides and fertilizers are often disposed at the HHW Facility. pool chemicals, and other outdoor recreation chemicals can also be brought here.

Automotive products such as used motor oil and antifreeze can often be brought to a service station for disposal. We can take small amounts of that material here as well as unused fuel and other automotive fluids, car waxes and cleaners, and material used for home projects such as bondo, adhesives and epoxy.
