About 200 people helped celebrate the Open House for Twin Lakes Park on Friday, May 27. The long-anticipated park was funded in part with a grant from the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment as administered by the DNR Parks and Trails Legacy Grant Program. (http://www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/Legacy/index.php?address=florence,%20mn).

The park is open for camping! It has 15 electric sites with 100' gravel camping pads, and one ADA compliant electrical site that is paved. There is a shower / bathroom building, and an excellent picnic shelter that easily hold 8 picnic tables. Though shade is currently at a premium, the site has been planted with shade trees that will leave a lasting legacy well into the future.

For more information about the park, call the Lyon County Environmental Department at (507) 532-8214.

Majestic oak woodlands dominate the steeply sloping riparian landscape of the Cottonwood River within the 700 acre Garvin Park. Miles of trails, and plentiful rest areas allow visitors substantial opportunity to explore the rich habitat and diverse wildlife that use this park. Regionally know for horseback riding, Garvin Park has three campgrounds, and numerous shelters and open space; providing peaceful locations to relax. Garvin Park attracts visitors as diverse as its environment for public recreation.

The Camden Regional Trail is a paved, multi-purpose recreational trail extending from Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) through the City of Marshall, and connecting area residents to Camden State Park. About 4 miles of paved trail connect adjacent campuses of Marshall High School and SMSU to a network of bike lanes in the City of Marshall. At the West end of Marshall, the paved trail covers 10 miles of gently rolling hills between Wayside Park (along MN HWY 23) to Camden State Park.
