** ATTENTION BIRDWATCHERS **

As part of our Lyon County Parks 50th Anniversary we are inviting birdwatchers to "Bird the Park" throughout 2017. We realize there are hundreds of great places to bird watch in Minnesota, yet are asking if you might consider visiting Garvin Park in 2017 so that we can better understand Garvin Park's bird life.

Garvin Park is nearly 800 acres with 15 miles of trails traversing the oak woodlands along the Cottonwood River in Lyon County - 13 miles South of Marshall. If you can help us add our understanding of birds in the park, please consider contributing your observations through eBird, the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union Seasonal reporting page, or emailing your observations to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for Lyon County.

* the Current Park Cheklist is linked below as a .pdf *

Garvin Park is listed at a "hotspot" on eBird: eBird Hotspot - Garvin County Park. Results can also be posted to the MOU Seasonal Report page

Thank you! and Good Birding!

Opened in 2016, Twin Lakes Park is Lyon County's newest park; nestled between East Twin and West Twin lakes. Two campsites are able to be reserved. Twin Lakes Park came to fruition from the desire of a local landowner to leave a legacy with land he owned. Other area landowners have also sold land to the County for future generations to enjoy camping and recreation in the area.

Twin Lakes Park exists from partnerships, generous donations, and Clean Water Land & Legacy Amendment Funding. A plan for future campground development is in the planning stages. Lyon County hopes to secure additional State Legacy Grant funding in the future for expanding this beautiful park area.

About 200 people helped celebrate the Open House for Twin Lakes Park on Friday, May 27. The long-anticipated park was funded in part with a grant from the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment as administered by the DNR Parks and Trails Legacy Grant Program. (http://www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/Legacy/index.php?address=florence,%20mn).

The park is open for camping! It has 15 electric sites with 100' gravel camping pads, and one ADA compliant electrical site that is paved. There is a shower / bathroom building, and an excellent picnic shelter that easily hold 8 picnic tables. Though shade is currently at a premium, the site has been planted with shade trees that will leave a lasting legacy well into the future.

For more information about the park, call the Lyon County Environmental Department at (507) 532-8214.
