NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNER
SNOW DEPOSIT ON HIGHWAY LIABILITY Snow dumped, plowed, or shoveled onto a public road can create a real hazard for motorists and snow plows.  Even heavy snow plows can be forced into the opposite driving lane when hitting compacted, frozen snow deposited on highways.  Plowing snow onto a public road may be punishable as a misdemeanor (Minn. Statutes 169.42 and 160.27).  Furthermore, the person responsible for depositing snow onto the highway may also be liable in a civil lawsuit if damages or injuries occur as a result of that action. Your understanding of, and cooperation with, County Highway workers is appreciated. Aaron VanMoer, P.E.
